What better way to usher in New York Fashion Week than by featuring the amazing and highly-admired photographer Diego Uchitel? He has worked with the best models, celebrities, designers and artists in the industry. His photographs possess a serene, raw quality that is rare in the age of the highly stylized and the over-Photoshopped.
Uchitel recently released his book called Polaroids, a compendium of the polaroids (remember those?) he’s taken throughout his career. The book came about after he had to dismantle the collage of polaroids he assembled on a 20 x 80 foot wall in his studio through since 1999. Those polaroids were from test shots before he committed his visions to film. This is a technique that is no longer practiced as much with the advent of digital cameras. There were also outtakes and favorite images on the wall.
In Polaroids, you will see stills from fashion editorials, portraits of celebrities like Sarah Jessica Parker, Sting, Kate Moss, Isabella Blow, Bette Midler and many other boldfaced names. These are broken in parts by architectural and landscape shots. If you like photography, Polaroids is a must have.
Below, Diego Uchitel shares the Five Things He Cannot Live Without…
1. My well-worn Red Wing boots.
2. My Filson briefcase that travels the world with me.
3. Good wine.
4. My ‘85 Land Rover Defender.
5. And my camera.

What do you think?
Love Uchitel’s photos. That said, Five Things I Cannot Live Without: 1. Air, 2. Water, 3. Food, 4. Shelter 5. My husband! My priorities seem to be different than most of the others featured on this blog. So many mention their Blackberry’s or Birkins. Oxygen seems to be way down on the priority list! Perhaps everyone at that level of refinement has learned to respire on the fumes of Creed perfume!
I always specify when I ask the subjects to list the five fashion and lifestyle things I cannot live without hence the lack of basic necessities. Thank you always for reading my blog and your comments. I appreciate the feedback!
