Pantone has picked Emerald — or to be more specific Pantone 17-5641 — to be the color of 2013. Emerald, a deep, lush jewel tone color. It is eye-catching and statement-making especially as a piece of jewelry. The name of the color itself comes from the gemstone. Emeralds figured prominently in the jewels of the maharajahs of India. But much of the emeralds we have today are mined in Colombia.
As someone who is drawn to the color green, I am particularly pleased by the emerald trend. At the spring 2013 collections last February, the color was everywhere; from Michael Kors’ mod-esque pieces to the lace dresses at Burberry Prorsum. In interior design, the deep hues of green malachite echo shades of emerald. And what could be more chic than an antique settee or bergere chair upholstered in emerald colored velvet?
