After 15 years, it was announced that Nicolas Ghesquiere is leaving Balenciaga. He who launched the it bag craze with his motorcycle bag. He who carried the modern vision of Cristobal Balenciaga to present times. In his years at the house, Ghesquiere produced collections that were critical and commercial smashes. There were all the structured jackets, the wispy dresses, the riffs on preppy dressing, the origami folds, the futuristic numbers with metal leggings, the couture shapes ad infinitum.
There’s no news yet of Ghesquiere’s next move but according to Cathy Horyn of the New York Times there is already talk of him moving to LVMH. Read more about this and other details of Ghesquiere’s move in Horyn’s column. Meanwhile, here are my favorite looks from Ghesquiere’s 15 years at Balenciaga.
