This month saw the worldwide debut of the Marc Jacobs Iconic Showpiece Exhibition in Hong Kong. The show, a three-part series, which runs from this month until April 2013, was opened by a selection of Marc’s best pieces from his spring/summer 2005 collection to the current fall/winter 2012 show. Thus, you have clothes that range from the pastels and softly romantic (spring 2005) to the glittery magpies (spring 2007), from the long and languid Poiret-ish silhouette (fall 2007) to the Guy Bourdin and Lolita-esque (spring 2011), and of course the oversized and deeply layered silhouette of the current season.
The first two installments of the series will feature Marc’s most unforgettable pieces from his collections. (It would be nice if they include spring 2013 in the next stage with its nod to the mod era and the graphic black and white patterns because I think it is one of Marc’s best collections.) The third installment will feature the Marc Jacobs advertising campaigns, most of which, if not all, were photographed by Juergen Teller. Among those who have been on the Marc Jacobs campaigns are Winona Ryder, Dakota Fanning, Victoria Beckham, Sofia Coppola, Charlotte Rampling and Marc himself. It would be interesting to see all the images together with their raw, edgy, and often times off-kilter themes. The exhibition was curated by Marc and the label’s co-founder Robert Duffy.
