5 Things I Cannot Live Without… Simon Spurr

Simon Spurr has style and swagger in spades. Before launching his menswear label, he had stints at Yves Saint Laurent with Hedi Slimane, Calvin Klein, and Ralph Lauren where he was in charge of Purple Label. British-born, Simon has the unique ability of blending traditional English tailoring with modern sensibility. For spring 2012, he mixed conventional men’s suiting fabrics with leather and employed paneling techniques to create clothes that look current but with shapes are inherently classic.

When I interviewed Simon last summer, he described the man he designs for as ”clean, modern, sophisticated, a little more polish with a little more European sensibility.”

“Some designers are looking to be avant-garde or redefine the  way men dress, my aim is to help men understand how to dress and to make men feel comfortable about the way they dress up. What I noticed is that people are designing for the sake of designing and not really addressing what men need.”

Below, Simon Spurr shares the Five Things He Cannot Live Without:

1. Football

2. Love

3. Manners

4. The ocean

5. And a challenge
